Karate

JCCCW is offering Karate classes every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The instructor, Jun Shihan Tom Tanaka, is an experienced Karate professional who is very excited to be working with NHAW.

Every Tuesday and Thursday evening starting October, 2009
Children (Ages 6-8): 5:00-5:45 p.m.
Youth (Ages 9-12):   5:30-6:30 p.m.
Teens & Adults (Ages 13+):       6:30-7:30 p.m.

Tom Tanaka has been teaching karate since 1980 and currently teaches & supervises Seido karate programs at the Downtown YMCA, Northshore YMCA, Dale Turner YMCA, and Washington Athletic Club.

Seattle Seido karate is an affiliated branch of the World Seido Karate Organization.

There is an annual registration & insurance fee of $50 (United States Judo Federation), monthly dues, and the cost of a judo-gi (uniform).

The Seattle Budokan Dojo, a Judo club, operates out of JCCCW and offers classes to students of all ages, with levels ranging from Junior I (4-7 yr old) to Advanced. "Judo" means "the gentle way" and is a modern Japanese martial art that emphasizes competitive, safe combat. Students of the Seattle Budokan Dojo will learn all of the basics and slowly advance to competitive rankings. Classes are taught by experienced instructors who have competed in national and international levels.
School of Taiko by Ringtaro & Asako Tateishi

Starting from November 6 at JCCCW, professional taiko drummer Ringtaro Tateishi will be teaching classes as head instructor of the School of Taiko. Classes will be held weekly on Fridays and anyone above the age of 6 is welcome to join and learn Taiko drumming! Ringtaro Tateishi is an international Taiko Sensei. He is skilled in many Japanese instruments and was a member of renowned Taiko troupe, Ondekoza. He also performed with Matsuriza at Epcot Center, Disney World Florida for seven years.

Monthly tuition fees for 4 lessons are $80 for all beginner classes.
There is a registration fee of $30, and $20 for Bachi (Taiko sticks).
Class space is limited so please register early to ensure a spot in the School of Taiko!

One World Taiko

From Saturday February 6 to 27, One World Taiko will be starting a beginner taiko class at the new Taiko Dojo at JCCCW.

Saturdays 2/6, 2/13, 2/20 and 2/27
12 - 1 pm.
$80.00 for 4 sessions (due at the first session)

All background and levels of experience are welcome. This would be a fun all-ages activity where folks can learn together and meet new people. So grab your bachi sticks and get ready to beat the Taiko drums!

Kaze Daiko Overview

Kaze Daiko is a performing taiko group for youth and young adults with strong ties to the Japanese American community. In Kaze Daiko, we strive to develop an appreciation of Japanese music and movement; to learn about Japanese and Japanese American culture, history and heritage; to help members develop and maintain a sense of identity, pride and self-confidence; to reach out to a broader community in support of diversity, tolerance and mutual education; to foster teamwork and unity of purpose – and have lots of Fun!. 

We practice on Mondays at JCCCW. We perform once to twice a month through out the year.  We do have two to three workshops per year. For more information visit our website below.
