Faces at the Cultural Center

Tsuyoshi Nagashima

Tsuyoshi Nagashima (or Yoshi for short) is a current programming intern at the Cultural Center working on the North West Nikkei Photo Legacy Project and general event support. Originally from Kumamoto Japan, Yoshi has been studying English in Seattle for nearly two years as part of the University of Washington's business certificate program and would eventually like to work in international business. He decided to volunteer at the JCCCW because of his interest in Japanese-American history and non-profit organizations. Yoshi's favorite parts of volunteering at the Cultural Center are working in a fun office environment with members of the staff and learning more about Japanese American history through his different assignments.

Yoshi feels that the Cultural Center project is important because most people don't know Japanese-American histories. "I think it's important to share and keep this history and teach them to new generation people. We shouldn't forget about this," said Yoshi.

Yoshi has put in a lot of hard work at JCCCW in the past few months so please think about stopping by the Cultural Center for the North West Nikkei Photo Legacy Project, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM from June 13 - 19.

NW Nikkei Photo Legacy Project Open House, June 13-19

Join us for JCCCW's Northwest Nikkei Museum's photo identification drive! The NW Nikkei Museum has thousands of historic community photos in its possession from the early 20th century and is currently in the process of digitizing them. Unfortunately, in many cases we have no way of knowing who the people in the photograph are or where the photograph was taken. This is where you can help us! The photo identification drive will give you the opportunity to help the museum put names to faces on these old photographs and record our history for future generations. No contribution towards the preservation of our historical legacy is too small. This will be a great time for storytelling and sharing memories so why not bring your father or grandfather down on Father's Day (June 19) and learn more about the history of the community from those who lived it? This is the NW Nikkei Museum's first photo identification project, but it won't be the last!

  • Date: June 13 - June 19
  • Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Place: JCCCW (1414 S. Weller St. Seattle, WA)
