NIKKEI YOUTH CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM
Spend this summer learning in Japan – June 28 to July 31, 2010 (Kobe, Japan)
The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) is currently seeking applicants for its Nikkei Youth Cultural Heritage Program (NYCHP). In cooperation with the Kobe YMCA Language Program (Hyogo Prefecture, Japan), the NYCHP is designed for participants to gain a better understanding of their cultural heritage and discover Japan in a unique and exciting way. This program will allow participants to immerse themselves in Japanese culture through Japanese language and writing classes, attend introductory classes in traditional Japanese art forms, take late afternoon and Saturday excursions exploring different parts of the Kansai region, all while having the opportunity to use and practice their Japanese language skills on a daily basis with their homestay family.
This year, the Nikkei Youth Heritage Cultural Program will incorporate a mandatory pre tour trip to Japan. The purpose of the tour is to introduce students to important historical and cultural assets in Japan so that they can increase and deepen their knowledge and interest while spending their month stay in Kobe.
This program is open to students at any level of the Japanese language, even those with little or no experience. Applicants must be 18 years of age and older and have completed a minimum of one semester of college studies.
The 2010 program participants will be chosen based on their application, essay and interview. Participants selected to the 2010 program must be able to attend all pre-trip workshops in preparation for their one-month stay in Japan. Applications are due on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Upon completion of this course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion by the Kobe YMCA Language School, which may be eligible for college credits. Please check with your institution for more information.
