What is the Omoide Book and Project?
Omoide: Childhood Memories is a culmination of memories from several different Northwest Japanese Americans before during and after the internment process of WWII. Written as true childhood experiences and in the internees own voices, this book is the latest in an ongoing project to preserve a time in history for present day students.
In addition to the book, the Omoide team members have provided oral presentations to classrooms, teacher groups and other community organizations. This extra "live voice" further impresses the reality of the stories making the memories real.
It is the hope of the Omoide team that the combination of these elements spreads the knowledge base to future generations keeping the memories alive when the live voices are no longer available.
