How to Use the Guide

The Omoide Instructional Guide can be used in a variety of ways, with classrooms, in discussion and reading groups, or as you like. You can go through each lesson and activity, or you can select what works best for you. The stories and activities are not sequential, but some of the content is more advanced and may require some preparation to fully benefit from the lesson.

Begin by browsing through the guide and book. Consider your group's ages, interests, and backgrounds as you plan. You may also want to review any related Social Studies, Language Arts, and Reading EALRs or CBA's for your grade level to find connections within the lessons that apply.

Decide what your primary objectives will be for presenting or reviewing the stories. You can then narrow down your choices. Some key questions you might consider:

  • Are you working with a live Omoide presentation?
  • Are you working only with the content of the book?
  • How much background information will be necessary to benefit your group?

Feel free to adapt or modify any of the lessons, activities and questions. The Omoide team would be interested in hearing how you use the books and the guide including suggestions or comments. Please contact info@jcccw.org with any comments or feedback.
