Welcome to the online Omoide Instructional Guide, a supplemental curriculum for teachers, parents, and interested readers.

The Omoide project is a collection of children's books written by Japanese Americans presently living in the Pacific Northwest. In the books are stories from the authors' pasts including the time before, during and after World War II. They are written as memories, events, and feelings the participants recall. These stories assist the documentation of the development of Japanese American culture from a personal and historical point of view.

The goal in providing this accompanying guide is to help you and your children enjoy the stories in educationally beneficial ways. Feel free to adapt or modify any of the lessons, activities, and questions as necessary. If you need more information or would like ideas for customizing your program, contact the Omoide team at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington.

Thank you for your interest in the Omoide project.
