Mochitsuki 2010 with Seattle NVC & Fukuoka Kenjinkai

JCCCW, Seattle Nisei Veterans Committee (NVC) and Fukuoka Kenjinkai welcomed the year of the Tiger at Mochitsuki (Mochi-pounding ceremony) A big Thank You to:

- Mr. Art Oki, owner of local Japanese sweet shop "Umai-Do", for leading the mochi production.
- Mr. Shoichi Sugiyama for performing this year's mochi pounding demonstration.
- Everyone who participated in Mochitsuki 2010 & all volunteers from every step of mochi making process.

Omoide Presentation

"Tip School, Hunt Hotel and Beyond" - Stories about resettlement, including some from internees who resettled at the historic "Hunt Hotel". Tip School, Hunt Hotel and Beyond is the second Omoide and JCCCW community-wide forum. Former teachers and students spoke on "Tip School" as it was called before World War II. During World War II, the buildings were occupied by the military. In 1945, when Nikkei families returned from the incarceration camps, the school became "Hunt Hotel", providing temporary housing.

SJLS Issei Legacy Buildings get fresh coat of paint & a whole lot of love! 305 volunteers

Volunteers from City Year and United Way of King County painted the walls of the Issei Legacy Buildings over the course of three days. We are grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with these two amazing organizations to help preserve Japanese American history and heritage.
