Yuji's Omusubi
Want an opportunity to connect with other Japanese American and Japanese National college students and young proffesionals? Why not attend a JCCCW Yuji's Omusubi event? Yuji’s Omusubi was originally conceived by former HBCC intern Yuji Sasagaki who came to the United States with the hope of meeting, learning more about and befriending young Japanese Americans. Upon arriving in America he was disappointed to find that there was significant separation between the Japanese National and Japanese American communities that was difficult to overcome. Determined to change this he approached the JCCCW about creating events designed to create international exchange by bringing together young Japanese and Japanese American students. Yuji worked hard in conjunction with other JCCCW and HBCC interns to plan, program and facilitate this first event so the JCCCW has decided to name the program Yuji’s Omusubi in recognition of his efforts to promote international exchange.
While Yuji may have returned to Japan his dream remains alive, Yuji’s Omusubi will be holding quarterly social and cultural events to connect young Japanese Nationals and Japanese Americans with one another. Yuji’s Omusubi seeks to further the JCCCW’s mission by creating international exchange and building a closer Japanese National and Japanese American community in the Greater Seattle area. Check the JCCCW website (jcccw.org) or the monthly Enews for updates and more information. To learn more about Yuji’s Omusubi or to become involved contact the JCCCW at Admin@JCCCW.org.

Every Second Thursday
Mosaic Group Meeting
6:30-8:30 p.m
Group Leaders: Chanda Ishisaka and Amanda Erekson
Partnering with MAViN Foundation, this group focuses on issues related to multiethnic and multicultural heritage. Census data shows that the Japanese American community is one of the most dynamic and vibrant communities of color in the United States and it continues to expand and diversify with each proceeding generation. Consequently the JCCCW is happy to offer the Mosaic Mixed Heritage Group, an affinity group devoted to discussing and celebrating the multiethnic and multicultural experience. Mosaic meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 6:30-8:30 at the JCCCW. The first meeting of the month is primarily discussion oriented and tackles a variety of different topics related to the multiethnic experience while the second is usually a social event of some sort such as a potluck, dinner outing or movie. The Mosaic Mixed Heritage Group is an inclusive group and all are welcome so if you are interested in joining please come to one of our meetings and celebrate the diversity of the Nikkei Community!
