Basic Information

Ages: Students must be between 7 and 18 years old.

Curriculum: We teach reading, writing, and conversational Japanese.

When: We meet Saturday mornings from 9:30AM – 11:30 AM with recess.

Location: Classes are held at our historical buildings located at 1414 South Weller Street, Seattle, WA, in the west building. Street parking

Class Size: Classes are divided by the student’s age and language ability. There is a minimum age requirement for each class. Each class is limited to 15 students (12 students for Intro 1 level) and a minimum of 8 students.

Grading and Attendance: There will be homework.  Attendance and good citizenship are highly valued at the school.

Textbooks: Some of the textbooks used in each classroom are available as a separate purchase in the school office.

Registration: Registration begins approximately one month prior to the start of a session.

Classes Offered

  • Beginning 1A (7-11 years old): Introductory Japanese:  Yasashi Nihongo*
  • Beginning 1B (12-18 years old):  Adventures in Japanese 1 (Chapters 1 - 3)*
  • Beginning 2 (minimum age 8 years old):  Japanese for Young People*
  • Beginning 3 (minimum age 9 years old):  Adventures in Japanese 1 (Chapters 4 - 6)*
  • Beginning 4 (minimum age 10 years old):  Adventures in Japanese 1 (Chapters 7 - 9)*
  • Intermediate: Adventures in Japanese 1 (Chapters 10 - 12)**
  • Advanced:  Adventures in Japanese 2**

 *Purchase of textbooks are not required prior to the first day of class.  After class assignments have been confirmed, treachers will provide more information about textbook purchase.
**A profifiencey test will be conducted on the first day of class for those who enroll in the Intermediate or Advanced class.

Refund Policy

 To withdraw from a class, you must make a written request to our office via email: jls@jcccw.org or by mail.

Refunds for Youth Classes will be issued per the schedule below:

14 days before the course start date: 100% refund of tuition only. 13-7 days before the course start date: 50% refund of tuition only. 6 days before the starting day and after: No refund will be issued
